The feed stock received at CBG plant is uniformly shredded to smaller sizes & moved into Pre digester to mix with water. Enzyme is added to accelerate biogas generation of this process. The slurry prepared is feed into digester for anaerobic digestion. The biogas generated is collected by membrane installed on top of digestor. Ferric chloride is added to suppress Hydrogen Sulphide generation.
Biogas purification is essential for higher energy value and to get rid of the corrosive H2S. Biogas purification process increases the methane concentration and decreases the carbon dioxide concentration which in turn result in higher calorific value. The purified biogas is compressed as CBG with methane content of more than 90%, and the CBG shall be complied to IS 16087:2016 specifications of BIS.
Compressed biogas is filled and transported through cascades. 3000 litres metal cascades or cascades of higher capacity are used. Steel cylinder cascades and composite cascades is used for transportation of CBG. For steel cylinder cascades, IS 7285 is applicable. If type-3 or type-4 composite cascades are used, respective BIS specifications like IS 15935 or relevant specifications is applicable.
India is installing Gas pipeline network across its geography and connecting its major cities, ports, industrial & domestic consumption points. City Gas Distribution (CGD) provides the feeder network. CBG project owners supply CBG to their offtaker City Gas Distributor at their selling point either via cascade or direct injection to CGD pipeline after factoring in the prorated additional logistics cost.
